Women's Tennis Splits Two In Lincoln|

Lincoln, Neb.- The UIC women's tennis team went 1-1 this past weekend, earning a 5-2 win over Colorado State on Saturday afternoon while losing a 5-2 decision to host Nebraska on Sunday morning.
Both matches were played at the Woods Tennis Center in Lincoln, Neb.
Against Colorado State, UIC snatched four of six singles matches and grabbed the doubles point with two doubles victories. The Flames were led by Beatriz Cabrera and Ayca Gumuscu, who each scored a singles and doubles win apiece.
Cabrera beat Dasha Zhurin at No. 1 singles 6-0, 6-1, while Gumuscu downed Carla Pallares 6-1, 5-7, 6-0 at the third spot.
On the doubles side, Gumuscu and Iris Jaklin beat Pallares and Zhurin in the No. 1 slot, taking a hard-fought 8-5 match. Cabrera and sophomore Corey Steven gave the Flames their other doubles win on Saturday, beating Singh and Jones 8-2.
Saturday's win was UIC's second-straight victory.
The Flames were unable to keep the momentum going on Sunday, losing the singles slate against Nebraska 4-2 while dropping the doubles point with two losses.
UIC (2-2) got another solid outing by Cabrera, who rallied from a 4-6 first set defeat to Milena Schulz-Gartner to take the next two, 6-3, 6-3. Cabrera also gave the Flames their only doubles win on the day with a 8-2 win with Steven over Anna Oehme and Schulz-Gartner.
Smith earned the only other victory against the Huskers, managing a tough 4-6, 7-5 (11-9) win over Rebecca Harvey.
UIC returns to the courts this Sunday, February 8th against Northern Iowa at the UIC Indoor Courts at 10 a.m.
