DeKalb, Ill. - The UIC women's tennis team posted its first win as a nationally ranked team on Friday as they downed Northern Illinois, 5-2, at the NIU Campus Recreation Center.

For the first time all season, the Flames, who are currently ranked No. 73 in the ITA top 75 poll, took the doubles point. The tandems of Nicole Derouin and Karen Liwanpo (8-3/No. 2), and Zjvezdana and Zorica Malesevic (8-6/No. 3) earned wins to stake UIC to an early 1-0 lead.

In singles play, Derouin earned her first win of the spring season with a three-set triumph over Karrie Tyioran (6-0, 3-6, 6-3) in the No. 2 match. The Flames then swept the No. 4-6 singles affairs with Kim Harris and Alyson Stalzer both notching their inaugural singles triumphs of the spring.

With the win, UIC improves to 2-1 on the year and will look for a 3-1 start on Saturday as they welcome UAB to the Oak Park Indoor Facility at 3:30 p.m.
