UIC Women's Tennis Earns First Victory
Feb. 1, 2000 Oak Park, Ill. - The UIC women's tennis team earned its first dual meet victory of the season Tuesday afternoon, downing Northern Illinois 7-2 at the Oak Park-River Forest Racquet Club.
"We still have a lot to work on, but it was nice to get a win," Head Coach Mary Dailey said after the match. "When I looked down the court after the first set of singles play we were down in four matches. We came back to win three of them so I guess we wanted it a little more than they did today."
Jacki Farr, Zorica Malesevic and Zvjezdana Malesevic all lost the first set of their singles match, but all three rallied for three-set victories.
Freshman Nicole Derouin, competing in the No. 2 singles slot, earned her first dual meet win of the season with a 6-3, 6-4 disposal of NIU's Kim Donsbach.
The Flames (1-3) took two out of the three doubles matches as Derouin and Harris tabbed their first doubles win of the season, 8-1. Liwanpo and Zvjezdana Malesevic, who played for the first time together this year, won a hard fought 9-7 match.
Dailey's crew is back in action on Saturday, Feb. 5, as they battle Valparaiso at the Oak Park-River Forest Racquet Club at 5:30 p.m.
