Women's Tennis Blanks Wright State In Season Opener, 7-0
Jan. 28, 2005
Chicago, Ill.- The UIC women's tennis team opened the dual match season in style on Friday morning, blanking Horizon League rival Wright State by a 7-0 count at the Evergreen Racquet & Fitness Club. UIC (1-0, 1-0 Horizon League) swept three doubles matches for the doubles point and won all six singles matches, all but one in two sets. Wright State (0-5, 0-2 Horizon League) put up a good fight, but the Flames were too much in giving head coach Shannon Tully her 30th win in Horizon League play. In four years under Tully, UIC is now 51-26 overall and a perfect 30-0 in league action. Iris Jaklin made her No. 1 singles debut of the 2005 campaign with a strong 6-1, 6-2 victory over Tiffani Foster. Corey Steven, Melanie Humphrey, Molly Smith and Christina Oum took care of business in the 2-5 slots, while freshman Grace Gill-Morlis made her UIC dual match debut with a strong 6-1, 6-4 win over Christa Ames at No. 6.
