East Lansing, Mich. - The UIC women's tennis team finished up a difficult weekend of competition on Sunday, dropping a match to Michigan State, 6-1, in East Lansing.

Nicole Derouin was the lone UIC victor, beating Asa Liden, 6-4, 6-0.

The Spartans won the remaining singles matches in straight sets, with the exception of rookie Molly Smith's match. Smith won the first set over Karen Gustafson before the Spartan rallied to take the second set, 6-3. Gustafson then took the tiebreak, 10-3.

UIC will be back in action on Tuesday, Jan. 21, when the Flames visit Marquette in Milwaukee.
