    Ivan Kovalev rejoins UIC tennis as the men and women's assistant coach. Kovalev spent two years at UIC. In 2005 he was named the Horizon League Player of the Year, first Flame to recieve that honor. He was also an All-Horizon League First Team selection that year.He is currently tied for second in most singles wins in a season with 20.p>


    2005 ALL-HORIZON LEAGUE FIRST TEAM 2004-05: Horizon League Player of the Year in his first season with the Flames...All-Horizon League First Team selection...went 20-8 overall in singles...his 20 singles wins are the most in a single season in UIC history...went 16-5 at the top spot in dual match singles...perfect against Horizon League foes in singles matches (7-0)...posted an 18-9 doubles season overall...went 14-7 in dual match doubles...6-1 against Horizon League duos...teamed with Andy Lockhart at the top doubles position...won his eight nine matches...won 15 matches in his last 17 decisions...both of his defeats during that span were in three sets...defeated Butler's James Low in No. 1 singles on Mar. 13 during a 3-6, 6-4, 7-6(4) comeback thriller...ITA Midwest Regional qualifier in singles... teamed with Lockhart to win seven of their final eight doubles matches...joined Lockhart to down Butler's Andy Bartish and Eric Breitenbach in No. 1 doubles on Mar. 13, winning 8-1...took SMU's Paul McNaughton to the limit in No. 1 singles, dropping a narrow 4-6, 6-3, 6-1 decision...went 4-3 in fall tournaments...posted team's season-best winning streaks in both singles (eight matches) and doubles (six matches) play...was the first Horizon League Player of the Year in school history.

    Prior to UIC: Played for the University of Lousiana-Lafayette from 2002-2003...turned in a 20-26 overall singles record and a 17-24 doubles mark.
