Nov. 4, 1999

The UIC women's swimming and diving team lost at home to visiting Texas Christian University, falling by a count of 139-80. The victory improved TCU's dual meet record to 2-0 while UIC fell to 0-2.

The Flames' diving team helped keep UIC in the meet, with junior Shannon Joseph (Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale Central) winning both the one- and three-meter diving events. Joseph recorded career highs in both events, scoring 251.60 on the one-meter and 293.35 on the three-meter.

Sophomore Julie-Anne Chico (Singapore/Holy Infant Jesus, Ill.) also had a solid meet for the Flames. Chico took first in the 500-yard freestyle (5:30.88) and finished second in the 200-yard freestyle (1:59.29).

Despite the loss, Christie was pleased with his team's performance against the Horned Frogs.

"We were up against a top-level team, and it gave us a chance to really step up and race," he said. "And we really did that. I'm very proud of how our team responded in a meet like this."

The Flames return to action tomorrow in a 5:00 p.m. home meet against Northern Michigan.
