CHICAGO – The UIC men’s and women’s swimming & diving teams enter their fourth-consecutive week of competition as they head to the TYR Invitational, hosted by Northwestern in Evanston, Ill.  The three-day tournament is scheduled to get underway with prelims at 9 a.m. (CT) on Friday at the Norris Aquatics Center.

The Flames look to carry over momentum from their most recent wins over Illinois Institute of Technology and Butler.  On Nov. 10, the men came away with a 163-66 win over the Scarlet Hawks, as the women defeated IIT, 166-37, and Butler, 148-82.

Setting their season record at .500, the men’s squad (3-3, 1-1 HL) captured best times in 12-of-13 events to take the win over IIT.  Vince Errichiello (200 IM, 100 Free), Christian Grobe (500 free, 100 breast), John Mordach (1000 free), Sean Mayfield (50 free), Kei Ishimaru (100 fly), Sebastian Ostrowski (100 back) and Mike Greco (1 Mtr, 3 Mtr) all held bests on the day.

The 200 medley relay team of Peter Errichiello, Brayden Amendola, Ishimaru and Ostrowski finished first with 1:37.37, as Brian Sivak, Mayfield, Ostrowski and Ramiro Almaraz took the best time in the 200 free relay with 1:27.36.

The women’s squad (3-2, 1-1 HL) concluded the meet after taking bests in 12-of-13 events as well.  Veronica Gibson (200 free, 100 fly), Kelsey Millin (200 IM, 100 back), Emily Gniatczyk (50 free), Monica Pinkus (100 free), Melanie Waszak (500 free), Andrea Longlade (100 breast) and Whitney Johnson (1 Mtr, 3 Mtr) all bested their opponents in their respective events.

Waszak, Longlade, Millin and Gniatczyk took first in the 200 medley relay with 1:48.67, while Devon O’Neil, Waszak, Danel Voorhees and Gisun Pak held the best time with 1:40.47 in the 200 free relay.

This weekend’s competition marks the fourth-consecutive year the Flames have competed in the TYR Invitational, as they are set to face Northwestern, North Dakota and Kenyon, with the women also taking on Illinois and Bowling Green.

Preliminaries are scheduled to begin each day at 9 a.m. (CT), with finals at 5 p.m. (CT) on Friday and Saturday and 3 p.m. (CT) on Sunday.
