Pinkus Named Illinois National Guard Student-Athlete of the Week

CHICAGO—UIC swimmer Monica Pinkus has been selected as the Illinois National Guard UIC Flames Student-Athlete of the Week for the period Oct. 21-27. The senior came away with two first-place finishes in the team win against Eastern Illinois over the weekend.

In the 138-65 win over Eastern Illinois, Pinkus recorded first place honors in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 24.33 and in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:04.46. Her time in the breaststroke set a Ray Padovan Pool record at EIU.

Pinkus is the second athlete from the women’s swimming & diving team to be named Illinois National Guard Student-Athlete of the Week so far this season. Whitney Johnson was the first to receive this honor during the period of Sept. 30-Oct. 6.

The Flames will host Milwaukee at the Flames Natatorium this Saturday with a scheduled start time of 1 p.m. (CT).
