Chicago, Ill. - The University of Illinois at Chicago placed ten student-athletes on the Horizon League Winter All-Academic Team, it was announced today by the league office.

The Flames had the second most representatives on the squad, following UW-Milwaukee who placed 16 on the team. Butler (9), Wright State (9), Detroit (8), UW-Green Bay (7), Cleveland State (6), Loyola (6) and Youngstown State (6) were behind UIC.

Leading the way for UIC were a pair of senior swimmers in David Kimmerly and Julie-Anne Chico, who were selected to the squad for the third consecutive year. Kimmerly will graduate with a degree in Liberal Arts & Sciences, while Chico is a Business major.

Men's basketball senior Thor Solverson was named to the team for the second year in a row as a Business/Finance major.

The men's indoor track & field squad landed a trio of excellent student-athletes, as Jonathan White made his second appearance on the team as a Business major. Danny Smith (Liberal Arts & Sciences) and Tristan Roche (Liberal Arts & Sciences) also garnered the honor.

Debbie Lang, also a Liberal Arts & Sciences major, was named to the squad from women's indoor track & field.

From men's swimming and diving, a pair of divers joined Kimmerly on the squad. Joe Scharnak (Liberal Arts & Sciences) and Ted Slowik (Art & Architecture) were selected for their excellence.

Joining Chico from women's swimming and diving was senior freestyle specialist Stephanie Brane, who is a Liberal Arts & Sciences major.

The Winter Academic All-Horizon League Teams are selected by the Horizon League Sports Information Directors and Faculty Athletic Representatives. Nominees must meet the following criteria: 1) a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or better on a 4.00 scale; 2) have completed at least three semesters at the same institution; and 3) be a starter or significant contributor in a league-sponsored sport. The team is comprised of the same number of First-Team All-Horizon League student-athletes in each sport. Ties are not broken.
