Chicago, Ill. - The UIC men's and women's swimming and diving team celebrated another successful season at the squad's awards banquet, held on April 20.

At the banquet, head coach Paul Moniak announced the 2008-09 team captains: Courtney Eck, Shaina Israel, Brenden Dougherty and Andy Peterson.

Eck, the top 400 IM competitor for the Flames this past season, will be the lone senior captain for next year.

The trio of junior captains will represent a wide array of events, as Israel is a top distance freestyle specialist, Dougherty focuses on the sprint freestyle events and Peterson returns as the team's top 200 backstroke competitor.

Women's Swimmer of the Year: Andrea Giczewski
Diver of the Year: Sonia Peterson
Men's Newcomer of the Year: Evan Dunn and Andrew Schmitt
Women's Newcomer of the Year: Brooke Sawyer and Kelly Hashoian
Men's Most Improved Athlete: Konrad Korth and Andrew Parro
Women's Most Improved Athlete: Emily Hare
NCAA Consideration Qualifying Recognition: Andrew Schmitt
