Carey And Magee Zoning In On This Weekend
March 14, 2002 Chicago, Ill. - At a time when the majority of collegiate swimming and diving athletes have ceased their training and competition, a pair of University of Illinois at Chicago divers have earned the right to advance further into the season. Freshman Caitlin Carey and junior Michael Magee, by qualifying with excellent marks earlier this season, will compete Friday and Saturday at Purdue University in the NCAA Zone C Diving Championships. Both advance in the one-meter event. Carey wasted little time in her UIC career to qualify for zones, making the mark in her first collegiate meet back on October 20, 2001 at Northern Illinois (267.83). Magee qualified on February 1 in home competition versus Butler, with a diving series of 300.35. On Friday, Carey will step onto the one-meter board at the Boilermaker Aquatic Center, while Magee will get his shot on Saturday. The top six individuals from this weekend's competition advance to the NCAA Championships.
The NCAA women's championships will be held in Austin, Texas, March 21-23, while the men will vie for national supremacy in Athens, Georgia from March 28-30.
