CHICAGO – Mike Greco, Woody Lord, Kristi Carling and Whitney Johnson head to Bloomington, Ind., to represent the UIC diving team at the 2012 NCAA Zone C Diving Championships, running Thursday, March 8, through Saturday, March 10, at Indiana University. Competition gets underway on Thursday and Friday at noon (CT) and on Saturday at 10 a.m. (CT) at the Counsilman-Billingsley Aquatic Center.
Competing for a chance to advance to the NCAA Championships to be held March 15-17 in Auburn, Ala., for the women, and March 22-24 in Seattle, Wash., for the men, the Flames look to replicate its top performances from the season. As the quad totaled 11 qualifying scores, five came from Greco, three from Lord, two from Carling and one from Johnson.
It was at the UIC Diving Invitational (Jan. 21) where all four divers set qualifying scores, in addition to a few records. Greco set a UIC Natatorium record with his season-best three-meter score of 365.25, while Lord placed a one-meter score of 328.00. Carling set school records in the one meter (291.30) and three meter (307.85), as Johnson put up 282.15 from the one meter.
Additional bests came from the one meter at the Horizon League Championships (Feb. 22-25), as Greco produced a qualifying 303.70 and Lord came in with his school record of 340.65.
Action kicks off on Thursday with the men’s three meter and the women’s one meter, with the men’s one meter and women’s three meter taking place on Friday. On Saturday, platform diving is set for the men and women.
