Feb. 20, 2008

Cleveland, Ohio - The UIC Swimming and Diving squad open the 2008 Horizon League Championships this afternoon at host Cleveland State University in northwestern Ohio.

Tristan Oleynik kicks things off for the Flames as he takes to the high board for the men's three-meter diving prelims at 1 p.m. The junior diving captain enters the meet with the seventh-best score in the league during the regular season with a 268.40 effort against Valparaiso on Jan. 26. The three-meter final will be held at 5 p.m.

Both the men's and women's 200-yard freestyle relays enter this evenings final as the defending champions in that event, with the women setting an all-time Horizon League record at this meet last season.

The lone individual event of the evening, the 1000-yard free, will feature distance freestyle standout Kelly Hashoian. The school record-holder in three events is seeded second for tonight's contest by virtue of her 10:28.21 school-record set on December 19 against Western Illinois.

Results will be posted on Cleveland State's website immediately following each event. The live internet broadcast will begin on Thursday.
