CHICAGO – Women’s diver Whitney Johnson has been named the UICFlames.com Student-Athlete of the Week for the period of Jan. 21-27. Johnson was selected as the Horizon League Women’s Diver of the Week for her performance this past weekend against Youngstown State and at the UIC Diving Invitational. The weekly league honor was the sixth of her career and the fifth this season.
On Friday versus YSU, she placed in first with a score of 269.48 on the 1-mtr board and second on the 3-mtr with a mark of 233.18.
On Saturday, Johnson took second in the 1-mtr with a career-high 287.85 and second in the 3-mtr with another all-time best 306.50, both of which are NCAA qualifying scores.
The sophomore is the first women’s swimming and diving member to earn the UICFlames.com award since the accolade’s inception at the start of the 2012-13 season.
Both men’s and women’s teams will conclude regular season action at home this Saturday (Feb. 2) against Cleveland State, beginning at 1 p.m. CT.
