CHICAGO - The UIC swimming and diving teams capped off the year with a sweep of in-state rival Western Illinois on Saturday afternoon in the UIC Natatorium.

The men's squad defeated the Leathernecks, 177-106 while the women gapped WIU by a 178 to 78 margin.

The Flames claimed victory in 22 events, including multi-event winners Emily Gniatczyk (50 and 100 free), Brian Anderson (50 and 200 free) and Zack Van Swol (200 back and 500 free).

Other winners on the day include senior Shaina Israel (1000 free), Sarah Walsh (100 breast) and Luke Martinez (200 fly).

" We swam well and I'm pleased with the results especially with our three-week layoff," said head coach Paul Moniak.

UIC now takes on a lengthy hiatus from competition, traveling to Florida for a nine day training trip before heading to Green Bay on January 16.
