Chicago, Ill. - The UIC men's and women's swimming and diving team had its first home dual against Wright State Friday night, featuring an even mix of new talent and veterans leading the Flames against the Raiders.

The men's squad was outscored 150 to 90 points against the defending Horizon League Champions from Dayton. The women tallied 89 to Wright State's 146 points.

The highlight of the evening was freshman Kelly Hashoian breaking the 1000 freestyle school record in only her second collegiate meet as a Flame. She finished the race in a very close second in 10:30.40, placing behind Horizon League record-holder Catalina Martinez, who won the event in 10:28.43. The former record (10:32.65) was set by Jamie Redway in 2002.

Hashoian capped off her memorable evening with a second-place in the 500 free (5:11.38) and third in the 200 freestyle.

Freshman Evan Dunn earned a win in the 200 IM for his second consecutive weekend. He took the victory in 1:54.80 over Wright State's Waren Thompson, a third-place finisher in the event at the 2007 league championships.

Senior Andrea Giczewski claimed the 50 (24.61) and 100 (52.43) free events for the second weekend in a row. Giczewski has already shaved a second off of her 100 free time in this young season.

The divers had their share of success as well, as junior captain Tristan Oleynik took the One-meter victory in 275.15, as did freshman Sonia Peterson in 224.70. Peterson came back to place second in the Three-meter (219.35) event as well.

The Flames are back in action tomorrow up in Evanston as they take on Big Ten powerhouse Northwestern at 1:00 p.m.
