WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - UIC divers Mike Greco, Connor Howard and Whitney Johnson brought their season to a close Friday, as they concluded the NCAA Zone C Diving Championship at Purdue's Boilermaker Aquatic Center after competing in the men's 3-meter and women's 1-meter.
"I am very proud of how well they all competed today," head diving coach Susan Bromberg said.
The Flames went up against tough opponents, new and old, through the two days of competition.
Greco and Howard transferred to the 3-meter board after day one on 1-meter. Greco tallied a score of 275.30 for 35th in prelims, as Howard followed with a score of 252.25 for 46th to wrap his first appearance at the Zone C Championship.
"Mike (Greco) and Connor (Howard) started out with strong dives and were very consistent," added Bromberg. "In the end, Mike improved his score from the previous year by 25 points on 3-meter and on 1-meter he increased his overall score by over 20 points."
Through the women's prelim round on the 1-meter board, Johnson took 41st place after producing a score of 221.70.
"Whitney (Johnson) did a much better job today and was more consistent than she was yesterday," Bromberg mentioned. "She improved her score from last year's zone meet by over 40 points."
With his second and final showing at the NCAA Zone C Championship, Greco brought his career with the Flames to a close, having captured 43 first-place finishes, 19 NCAA qualifying scores and seven Horizon League Diver of the Week accolades over the past four years.
"It was great to see Mike finish on a good note, and a great way to cap off his collegiate career with the UIC swimming & diving team."
