    CLEVELAND, Ohio-The UIC men’s and women’s swimming & diving teams closed out the Horizon League Championships at the Robert F. Busbey Natatorium Saturday with third- and fifth-place finishes, respectively. Kei Ishimaru was crowned champion in the 200 butterfly when he sped through in 1:47.95.

    Ryota Kuwahara took seventh in the 1650 freestyle with his time of 16:03.66. Joel Demuth’s time of 45.35 was good for seventh in the 100 free. Christian Grobe finished sixth in the 200 breaststroke (2:02.19).

    The 400 free relay team of Demuth, Mike Reed, Sebastian Ostrowski and Nick Kowaleski placed third with their time of 2:59.19.

    Whitney Johnson placed second on the three-meter board with her score of 293.40. Senior Melanie Waszak sped through the 200 fly and just missed first when she touched in 2:01.53.

    Veronica Gibson finished fifth in the 1650 free with her final time of 17:09.58. Monica Pinkus took fourth in the 200 breast when she touched in 2:19.04.

    Pinkus and Waszak were joined by Katherine Hare and Kelsey Millin to take fifth place in the 400 free relay with a time of 3:27.91.
