Chicago, Ill. - The 2002 Horizon League Swimming and Diving Championships culminated on Saturday evening, finishing with a plethora of fast swims and a pair of new champions at the UIC Natatorium.

Head coach Matt Liddy's Wright State Raiders were crowned champions of the women's competition, outlasting pesky UW-Green Bay, as the Raiders finished with 755.50 points.

Wright State last won the conference title back in 1999 held at Illinois-Chicago.

The Phoenix finished with 722 points in second, followed by last year's champion, UW-Milwaukee (669.50), Illinois-Chicago (461), Butler (267) and Youngstown State (231).

In the men's competition, UW-Green Bay won its first league swimming and diving title, finishing with 755 points, ahead of Cleveland State's total of 698.

Third-place on the men's side went to last year's champ Wright State (677), followed by Wisconsin-Milwaukee (502), Illinois-Chicago (349) and Butler (245).

The Wright State women's squad had only two winning efforts on the night, but depth played a large role in the winning Raider cause.

Julie Coghlan got things rolling for WSU, winning the first event of the night, the grueling 1650-yard free in 17:20.51.

The other Wright State victory came in the diving competition, as Roberta Borkowski took the one-meter event with 273.90.

For the Flames, Jamie Redway took second in the 1650-yard free in 17:40.45. Christine Hare finished seventh in the final of the 100-yard free in a time of 54.28, while Alicia Perry did the same in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:27.51).

Vanessa Segovia was also seventh in the 200-yard fly (2:13.81), while Andrea Bove and Shannon Joseph finished sixth and seventh in one-meter diving.

For the winning UW-Green Bay men, Zach Hansen led the way winning the 200-yard fly in 1:51.53.

Teammate Danny Brozowski was second in 1:51.92.
