Final Stats

Chicago, Ill. - After two days of swimming and diving action from the 2002 Horizon League Championships hosted by Illinois-Chicago, the Wright State Raiders stake claim to the top spot in both the men's and women's competition.

In women's action, the Raiders, with 242.5 points, have jumped out to a commanding lead, as UW-Green Bay is second with 196 points.

In third-place is Illinois-Chicago with 187 points, while UW-Milwaukee (166.5), Youngstown State (101), Cleveland State (94) and Butler (59) round out the competition.

UW-Green Bay grabbed the early lead by wining an exciting 200-yard free relay to start out the night, but Wright State won two events on the night, as the Raiders' depth took shape.

Wright State's Heather Weil won the 500-yard free (5:06.62), while Milda Zilinskaite took first in the 200-yard IM to pace the Raiders.

Other event winners were Kaye-Lani Laughna of UW-Green Bay in the 50-yard free (23.94) and Youngstown State's Brandi Goettsch in the three-meter diving event (458.05).

UW-Green Bay also won the 400-yard medley relay in 3:53.77.

On the men's side, Wright State was nearly as impressive with two wins, as well.

Senior Jon Averyt won the 50-yard free in 20.75, while Trevor Downing stole the show in the one-meter diving competition, scoring 311.60 points.

Cleveland State won the 200-yard free relay (1:22.82) and 400-yard medley relay (3:23.08), while CSU's Andrew Hancock was a winner in the 500-yard free (4:34.92) and Warren Vickers grabbed first in a tight 200-yard IM (1:51.18).

For the Flames, Paul Torres swam a fantastic race in the 200-yard IM, as he finished second in 1:51.41. Enric Claret was third in 1:53.23.

Junior diver Mike Magee finished fifth on the one-meter board with 270.50 points.

As a team, the UIC women are currently third with 187 points. The Flames were led by UIC's 200-yard free relay team of Julie-Anne Chicao, Stephanie Murphy, Christine Hare and Stephanie Brane, which finished second in 1:39.02.

 

 

Jamie Redway was third in the 500-yard free (5:08.36), while Alicia Perry was fourth in the 200-yard IM (2:10.97.

In three-meter diving, Andre Bove (394.35) and Shannon Joseph (391.05) were fifth and eighth, respectively.

Swimming trials continue tomorrow morning at 10:30 AM.
