    Brown Deer, Wis. -Led by a bevy of top finishes, including Evan Dunn's 200 IM victory, the men's swimming and diving team remains in first place through 16 events at the Horizon League Championships.

    After two days, the Flames, with 297 points, hold a 39 point lead over Cleveland State (258), followed by Wright State (243), Milwaukee (225), Green Bay (219) and Valparaiso (97).

    The women's squad sits in fourth place with 212 points, behind Milwaukee (309), Green Bay (306) and Wright State (232). Youngstown State (121), Valparaiso (113), Cleveland State (109) and Butler (71) round out the eight-team competition.

    Entering the finals as the third seed, sophomore Evan Dunn shaved a second off the school record with his 1:50.53 first-place finish in the 200 IM. Earning all-second team honors behind Dunn was freshman teammate Luke Martinez, finishing second in 1:50.75.

    For the day's fastest competition, Brian Anderson placed second in the 50 free finals with a time of 20.21, defeating last year's defending champion by over a tenth of a second.

    In the 500 free finals, Kelly Hashoian placed eighth (5:04.60), Andrew Schmitt fifth (4:34.55), Zach Van Swol sixth (4:35.73) and Alex Webster eighth (4:39.32) to round out the Flames middle distance competitors on the second day in Brown Deer.

    Other top finishes for the Flames include Clair Martin in the 200 IM (2:06.55, sixth), Hannika Schleebs (fourth, 23.88) and Ashley Simos (sixth, 24.21) in the 50 free finals.

     

     

    In the men's one-meter diving finals, freshman Kevin Heger improved by over 30 points between the prelims and the finals to place ninth with a score of 259.55 in the 13-man field.

    The evening closed out with the 400 medley relay, which saw the men's squad of Steve Yemm, Ikeda, Schmitt and Anderson come from behind to defeat Cleveland State for the title and demolish the Horizon League record with a 3:15.78 first-place finish. The women's team of Martin, Sarah Walsh, Kayla Redig and Schleebs finished fourth in 3:49.00.

    The Flames return to action on Friday with the 400 IM, 100 fly, 200 free, 100 breaststroke, 100 back, 800 free relay and the women's one-meter finals.
