Feb. 26, 2004
Chicago, Ill.- Fans witnessed another record-breaking day at the UIC Natatorium as the 2004 Horizon League Swimming & Diving Championships continued on Thursday.
Three UIC school records, two league relay records, two UIC Natatorium records, and a blazing new men's 50-yard freestyle mark were all set throughout Thursday's exciting festivities.
The UIC women's 400-yard medley relay team beat the Flames' previous best in the event with a 3:59.64, surpassing the old mark of 4:00.33 set back in 1999.
Illinois-Chicago's men's team followed with a record-setting performance of their own in the 400-yard medley relay, with Adan Jimenez, Enric Claret, Ari Bernstein and LeRoy Stevens blasting their own record set at last year's championships by more than two seconds, turning in a 3:22.93.
The old mark in the event was 3:24.99.
Jimenez broke another record during the 400-medley relay, turning in a 100-yard backstroke record of 51.97 leading off the event.
Both 400-yard medley league relay records were broken, as Wright State's women turned in a 3:51.26, while Cleveland State's men swam to a 3:19.93. Each time also marked new UIC Natatorium records.
Earlier in the day Wright State's Elvis Cirikovic shattered the 50-yard freestyle Horizon League record of UW-Milwaukee's Josh Baseheart, turning in a 20.20 during preliminaries. Cirikovic finished first in the 50 free finals, racing to a 20.46.
