    Final Stats

    BROWN DEER, Wis. – Daniel Corley and Luke Martinez registered a pair of first-place finishes as the UIC men’s and women’s swimming & diving teams concluded day two of the Horizon League Championships.  The men’s squad stands at second place with 289.5 behind Milwaukee with 341, while the women’s squad stays at fourth with 205.5, following the Panthers’ first place 295.

    In a day where the Flames pushed through prelims and went on to finals, season-best times were garnered by leading performers while competing in the 500 free, 200 IM, 50 free and 400 medley relay.

    The men’s team started in the 500 free with Corley’s first-place finish of 4:27.42.  He was followed in the A Final by Zach Van Swol’s 4:32.41 to place fourth.  In the B Final, Alex Webster registered 4:38.77 for ninth and John Mordach came in 12th with 4:41.11.

    In the 200 IM, Martinez collected his first with a time of 1:50.00.  Coming in sixth and seventh in the A Final was Vince Errichiello and Josh Jacobson, with respective times of 1:53.40 and 1:54.11.  Will Ikeda (1:54.03), Sebastian Ostrowski (1:54.31) and Conor Ozog (1:55.73) rounded out the B Final.

    At the 50 free, Gabe Cury led the Flames with a fourth-place 20.48, while Joel Demuth followed at sixth with 20.53.  Brian Sivak participated in the B Final with his final of 21.24 for 14th.

    Wrapping up competition in the 400 medley relay, Sivak, Ikeda, Cury and Corley pulled together to come in third with 3:20.10.  Corley concluded the race with a team-best 44.28.

    The women’s team had stand-out performance from Melanie Waszak for the second consecutive day, this time in the 500 free.  She came away with a second-place finish at 4:54.26 to lead UIC in the A Final, while Sara Pardue swam in the B Final to place 16th with 5:15.24.

    Kelsey Millin represented the Flames in the 200 IM with her seventh-place 2:07.14.  Clair Martin went on in the B Final to take 12th with 2:08.26.  Milwaukee’s Emily McClellan set a championship and league record with her first-place 1:59.84.

    In the 50 free, Marissa Yontz finished in 23.55 for third place.  Emily Gniatczyk and Monica Pinkus took on the B Final to come out with 10th (23.80) and 12th (23.87) place finishes, respectively.

    Rounding out the day in the 400 medley relay, the team of Martin, Pinkus, Waszak and Yontz produced a second-place finish with 3:44.59.  Yontz led the quad with her final of 50.61.  Milwaukee also set another championship and league record with 3:41.23.

    Women’s diving participated in the one meter on Thursday.  Kristi Carling put up a final of 239.35 for fourth place in the A Final.  In the B Final, Whitney Johnson took ninth with 248.30 and Jamie Krause claimed 15th with 175.40.

    Competition resumes Friday morning at the Schroeder Aquatic Center.
