Chicago, Ill.- The first day of the 2007 Horizon League Championships at the UIC Natatorium got off to a fast start for the Flames' swimming and diving teams, as both the men's and women's squads captured 200-yard freestyle relay victories to open Wednesday night's finals session.

The women's quartet of Kelly Hyatt, Emily Biancalana, Andrea Giczewski and Colleen Dougherty finished the relay in a league-record 1:35.24 to take the league title in the event.

UIC's foursome of Cameron Seebeck, Brenden Dougherty, Dan Hare and Blake Booher then followed with a winning time of 1:21.05 in the men's title, thanks largely to Booher's :19.37 split that overcame an early Wright State lead in the race, to give the Flames a sweep of the 200 free relay championships.

Shaina Israel and Davor Trnovljakovic led the Flames in the women's and men's 1000 free events, respectively, while Sarah Economides finished sixth in the women's three-meter diving finals.

Through Wednesday's events the Flames sit in third place on the men's side of team rankings, while the UIC ladies are in fourth.

Wright State currently leads on both sides.

The 2007 Horizon League Swimming & Diving Championships resume at the UIC Natatorium on Thursday morning with swimming preliminaries beginning at 10:30 a.m.
