Chicago, Ill. The University of Illinois at Chicago men's and women's swimming and diving teams closed out the regular season on Saturday, picking up victories over Valparaiso in a double-dual meet against the Crusaders and Horizon League rival Cleveland State on Saturday afternoon at the UIC Natatorium.

The men's team scorched the Crusaders 179-51, while the women vanquished Valpo 162-66. Against the Vikings, the women fell just short, 119-115, while the men dropped a 156-87 decision.

Leading the way for the Flames was LeRoy Stevens and Aisha Williams, who eached picked up an individual victory and a relay win on Saturday.

Stevens posted a season-high in the 50-yard freestyle, racing to first place in the event with a time of 21.21. The super sophomore also teamed with Ari Bernstein, Blake Booher, and Adan Jimenez to close out the meet with a 400-yard freestyle relay win in 3:07.07.

Williams was equally strong, taking the 100-yard freestyle in 54.35 while posting a 400-yard relay win with Kelly Hyatt, Vanessa Segovia, and Emily Biancalana in 3:43.35 to give the Flames a sweep of the event.

Caitlin Carey was her usual self on Saturday, quietly taking both the one-meter and three-meter diving events.

Cleveland State was undefeated on the day, beating Valpo on both sides with a 126-81 women's win and a 195-39 men's victory.

Saturday was also Senior Day for the five graduating members of the swimming and diving teams. Enric Claret, Stephanie Donovan, Alexander Marinof, Joe Scharnak, and Doug Zimmer were saluted for the tireless efforts as leaders and competitors both in and out of the pool.



UIC will return to action on Wednesday, February 25th when the Flames play host to the 2004 Horizon League Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving Championships. The event runs from February 25-28 at the UIC Natatorium.
