Cleveland, Ohio - The UIC women's swimming and diving team closed out its regular season with wins against Horizon League foes Cleveland State and Youngstown State on Saturday.

The Flames defeated the Cleveland State Vikings 141-83 and the Penguins of Youngstown State 152-78.

Underclassmen led the way in Ohio, with a pair of victories by freshman Sonia Peterson in the one-meter (216.85) and three-meter (211.80) diving events to jump-start the Flames in the final meet before the Horizon League championships.

Fellow freshman Kelly Hashoian (1000 free/10:42.49 and 500 free/5:14.10), Kathryn McLeland (200 free/1:57.85) and Brooke Sawyer (200 IM/2:13.71 and 200 back/2:08.81) helped pace UIC to victory.

Andrea Giczewski continued her winning ways during her senior campaign by finishing first in both the 50 (24.23) and 100 (52.44) freestyle events. Giczewski has now won either of the sprint events in all dual meets the Flames have competed in this season.

The Flames have the next two weekends off as they prepare for the 2008 Horizon League Championships, held from Wed. February 20 through Sat. February 22 at Cleveland State University.
