Milwaukee, Wis. - Following a successful first day at the Bill Ritter Invitational on Friday, the University of Illinois at Chicago men's and women's swimming and diving teams cooled off a bit on Saturday, as both squads finished fourth.

On the men's side, UW-Green Bay won the team title with a score of 1,215 points. The Phoenix was followed by UW-Milwaukee (907), Butler (461), UIC (401) and Marquette (245).

The Phoenix also hailed as the women's team champion with 1,015.5 points. Following UWGB was UW-Milwaukee (962), Illinois State (877), UIC (449), Butler (252) and Marquette (140.5).

Paul Torres and Enric Claret continued their dominance of the individual medley events on Saturday.

After Claret edged Torres for the 200-yard IM title Friday, Torres came back in the 400-yard IM on Saturday to clip Claret for the title. Torres finished in 4:07.45, a season-best by nearly four seconds. Claret finished in 4:11.56.

"These guys (Torres and Claret) had an impressive meet," UIC head coach Paul Moniak said. "To finish one-two twice is very good and that is our goal at the league championships is to do the same."

Claret's day wasn't over, as he led off the Flames' 800-yard free relay with a blistering effort of 1:45.99, as UIC ended up fifth in that race.

Torres added another victory to his collection, winning the 200-yard breaststroke with a swift time of 2:08.01.

For the women, Jamie Redway finished second in the brutal 1650-yard freestyle with a time of 18:07.08.

Julie-Anne Chico added a seventh-place effort in the 100-yard free (56.03), while finishing eighth in the 200-yard freestyle, clocking in at 2:01.75.

The Ritter Invitational, which is formatted similar to the upcoming Horizon League Championships, gave the Flames an opportunity to get accustomed to this style of meet.

"This format is pretty similar to the league championships so this was a good test for us," Moniak said. "We asked the kids to swim a lot of races in little time and they did a good job.

"This was a great training tool for us."

Both the men's and women's squads have a busy weekend coming up, as they host Butler on Friday night, Senior Night, at 5:00 PM. On Saturday, the Flames will wake up bright and early to travel to Wright State for a 1:00 PM league affair with the Raiders.
