Men's And Women's Swimming And Diving Enjoys Good First Day in Milwaukee

Milwaukee, Wis. - Through one day of competition at the Bill Ritter Invitational hosted by UW-Milwaukee, the University of Illinois at Chicago men's and women's swimming and diving squads are positioned well. After Friday night's proceedings, the UIC men are currently third out of five teams with a total score of 184 points. UW-Green Bay is leading (393), while the host Panthers are second with 309 points. On the women's side, the Flames are positioned in fourth-place out of six teams with 224 points. UW-Milwaukee is leading (355), followed by Illinois State (336) and UW-Green Bay (314.50). The speedy duo of Enric Claret and Paul Torres flexed their muscle in the 200-yard IM, finishing one-two. Claret's time of 1:55.62 edged Torres, who finished in 1:56.25. Both efforts were season-highs. Diver Michael Magee continued his success on the season, taking second on the one-meter and three-meter boards. On the one-meter board, Magee's score of 267.40 was bested by UW-Milwaukee's Nic Seider's 299.20. Seider once again edged Magee in the three-meter event, as Magee tallied a score of 429.70. For the women, freshman Caitlin Carey came up big in the diving portion of the meet. Carey won the one-meter event with a score of 233.40 and finished second on the three-meter board, scoring a 378.90. Jamie Redway chipped in a fifth-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle, clocking in at 5:17.73.
In the 50-yard freestyle, the Stephanie duo of Murphy and Brane finished six-seven. Murphy's time of 25.66 edged Brane's 25.84.
