Email Coach Bromberg

Susan Bromberg enters her eighth season as the head diving coach for the UIC swimming and diving program. She holds over 20 years of coaching experience in the Chicagoland area.

Bromberg was named the Horizon League Women's Diving Coach of the Year in 2013. During that season, Bromberg coached sophomore Whitney Johnson to become the Diver of the Meet at the Horizon League Championships, the school’s first since 2000. Under Bromberg’s tutelage, Johnson became the first diver in UIC history to compete in the NCAA Zone C Championships all four years and was named one of UIC’s Top 50 Women’s Athletes of the past 50 years.

During the 2014-15 season, Bromberg sent four divers to the Zone C Championships and in total she has sent eight different divers to the Championships.

Bromberg had previously served as the diving coach for Lake Forest College in Lake Forest, Ill., for seven years. While at Lake Forest College, she had divers earn 14 NCAA All-American Awards and nine Midwest Conference Champions. She was named the NCAA Division III Women's Coach of the Year in 2006.

Prior to her position at Lake Forest, Bromberg served as the diving coach at Highland Park High School for a decade. She also spent time at Deerfield, Regina Dominican and Maine East High Schools.

Bromberg is a member of the Rules Committee and the Member Services Committee for USA Diving. She is a USA Diving Zone D representative on the Governance Committee and is a FINA Certified Judge. In December 2014, Bromberg judged the Senior Nationals and in May 2015 was a judge for the World Championships Selection Meet to help begin their selection for the 2016 U.S. Olympic Trials.

She has served on the NCAA Division III diving selection committee for three years. She also presides over the Illinois Diving Association as president since 2004.

In 1997, Bromberg co-founded the Windy City Diving Team, where she serves as one of the head coaches. This team attracts divers from all over the Chicago area and competes across the nation. Numerous Flames have competed with Windy City Diving, including current Flames Rachel Criscione, Tyler Pastore and Mark Ciesielski. Under Bromberg’s watch, the team has produced two national champions and decorated diver Christina Loukas, who qualified for the USA Diving Junior National Team and, later, the 2008 and 2012 Olympic Teams.

The Windy City Diving Team has developed close to 200 IHSA state meet qualifiers, over 60 state meet finalists and seven state champions. The team has seen many divers compete at the USA Diving Region and Zone meets and have had several divers earn entry for the USA Diving Junior and Senior National Championship Meets.

A 1983 graduate of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Bromberg earned her degree in Health Education.
