UIC head men's and women's swimming & diving coach Tim Loeffler announced on Tuesday the addition of Mike Tubb as the new assistant coach. Tubb was a student-athlete at Rider before serving as an assistant coach at Rowan and returning to his alma mater as a volunteer assistant.
Junior Whitney Johnson competed in the one-meter and three-meter events at the NCAA Zone C Diving Championships at Ohio State's McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion. Johnson ended competition with scoring 216.70 on the one-meter and 226.40 on the three-meter.
The UIC women's swimming & diving team earned a Spring Scholar All-America Team Award from the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) on Friday. The team earned the award for a strong academic showing for the spring semester.
The women's swimming and diving program had a strong showing at the Horizon League Championships with three runner-ups. Danel Voorhees (100 butterfly), Whitney Johnson (three-meter board) and Melanie Waszak (200 butterfly) collected second-place finishes.
Flames' Athletic Director Jim Schmidt announced the hiring of Tim Loeffler as UIC's new head swim coach on Tuesday afternoon, pending Board of Trustees approval. Loeffler will oversee both the men's and women's swimming and diving programs after serving as an assistant coach at Army and Michigan State.
The Horizon League has announced that 58 teams tallied perfect 1000 Academic Progress Rates (APR) in the 2012-13 academic year. Three of those squads are from UIC as the volleyball, baseball and women's swimming & diving teams recorded perfect scores.
