Softball Reveals 2013 Schedule

CHICAGO – UIC head softball coach Michelle Venturella, who is in her fifth season at the helm of the program, recently announced the team’s 2013 schedule. Similar to the 2012 season, the Flames begin competition Feb. 8 at the Hotel Encanto Tournament in Las Cruces, N.M.

“We are very excited to get the 2013 season underway,” Venturella said. “The level of competition this season is as strong as it has ever been for our program. We will face several top-tier teams early in our pre-conference tournaments, including Arizona State and USF, which were both in the College World Series last season. Our administration does a fantastic job of providing us with the support necessary face solid competition in order to prepare us for the Horizon League slate. We are all looking forward to a great season.”

New Mexico State plays host to the first of five tournaments UIC will compete in to begin the 2013 season. The Hotel Encanto Tournament (Feb. 8-10) in Las Cruces, N.M., welcomes both UIC and Nebraska.

The team then travels to Tempe, Ariz., for a tournament at Arizona State (Feb. 16), before then continuing further south to USF on March 2, followed by a tournament at Southern Illinois on March 10.

The Hoosier Classic (March 15-17) is the final tournament for the Flames. The Bloomington, Ind., event features host team, Indiana, Michigan State, Toledo and Central Michigan.

UIC opens its home slate with back-to-back single games on March 19 and 20 against Bradley at 4:00 p.m. (CT). The Flames then continue their home stand in their conference opener against Green Bay in a three-game series with the first two games on March 23 at Noon, followed by the final contest on March 24 at Noon.

On March 27, UIC travels to West Lafayette, Ind., to contest Purdue at 3:00 p.m. UIC then returns to Flames Field to face Loyola on March 29-30, with competition set to begin at Noon on both days, while the 29th will be a doubleheader. The final home game for UIC is against Northwestern on April 1 at 5:00 p.m.



On April 6-7 the Flames travel to Detroit to face the Titans. The first day of competition is a twin bill, followed by a single game on the 7th with both days beginning at 11:00 a.m.

On April 10, UIC returns home to face DePaul, and won’t compete at Flames Field again until April 27. Before then, UIC faces Valparaiso (April 13-14), Northern Illinois (April 17), Wright State (April 20-21) and IUPUI on April 23.

On April 27-28, UIC plays host to Youngstown State in a three-game series, before its final home series of the regular season on May 4-5 against Cleveland State.

The Horizon League Championship is May 8-11 and the top-seeded team from the regular season will serve as the host institution.
