    Dec. 11, 2012

CHICAGO – Seniors Melissa Preish and Coryn Schmit have been named to the 2011-12 National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-America Scholar-Athlete accolades. The honor is a result of their academic accomplishments during the 2011-12 academic year. The award is given to any player submitted by a member coach, who achieved a 3.50 grade-point-average or better.

Preish, who is enrolled as a kinesiology major, was honored in 2012 by being named to the Horizon League Academic Honor Roll in the Spring of 2012. The senior is enrolled in UIC Honors College.

Schmit, also a kinesiology major and member of the Honors College, was named to the 2012 Horizon League Spring Academic Honor Roll and was one of only eight UIC student-athletes to be named to the League Spring All-Academic team. Schmit received Capital One Academic All-Region and Academic All-America nods, while being named the UIC Female Student-Athlete of the Year in 2011 and 2012.

During the 2011-12 academic year, Preish and Schmit were joined by three additional teammates in the Honors College. Among them, Kara Komp, Jacki Fletcher and Erica Hampton.
