    CHICAGO –
UIC head softball coach Michelle Venturella announced the release of the 2014 competitive schedule Thursday.  The season will kick off for the Flames on Feb. 7, when they co-host the Rosemont Rumble tournament.

“We feel very fortunate to have the support of our administration to be able to compete in pre-conference tournaments to prepare us for our conference season," head coach Michelle Venturella said.  "We are very excited to co-host the Rosemont Rumble with Loyola and attract such a high level of competition.  We always want to compete against teams that are going to challenge us and this year will be no different.  We are looking forward to a wonderful 2014 season.”

With four seniors, four juniors, four sophomores and six freshmen in place, UIC will begin its 2014 campaign at the Rosemont Rumble on Feb. 7-9 in Rosemont, Ill., followed by two trips to Florida on Feb. 14-16 to compete in the UCF/Holiday Inn Classic and Feb. 21-23 to challenge its opponents at the Jacksonville University Tournament.  UIC then heads west for the San Diego Classic, Feb. 28-March 2, in San Diego, Calif., before returning to the Midwest for the Hoosier Classic, hosted by Indiana in Bloomington, Ind., March 14-16.

The Flames get right into Horizon League play on March 22 and 23, when they head to Cleveland State for a pair of games at 11 a.m. CT.  The Flames then head back home to host Valparaiso at 1 p.m. March 29 and 30 at Flames Field.

UIC begins April with a non-conference game at Northwestern on April 2 at 4 p.m., followed by noon start times on April 5 and 6 against conference-foe Wright State at Flames Field and a 2 p.m. start on April 8 versus North Dakota at home.

On April 12-13, the Flames return to Ohio to take on Youngstown State at noon and 11 a.m., respectively, before coming back to Chicago to open a four-game home slate.  The Flames host Purdue at 5 p.m. on April 16, Detroit at 2 p.m. on April 18 and noon on April 19, and wrap-up their home stand on April 22 at 5 p.m. against IUPUI.

UIC makes a quick trip to Green Bay to compete on April 26 at 1 p.m. and April 27 at noon, before hosting Northern Illinois at 4:30 p.m. on April 29 in its final home game of the season.  The regular season will wrap up on May 3-4, when the Flames travel to Rochester, Mich., to take on Oakland at 11 a.m.

The Horizon League Championship is set for May 7-10, with the top-seeded team from the regular season scheduled to host and the winner advancing to the NCAA Regionals.
