CHICAGO - Coryn Schmit of the UIC softball team has earned Academic All-America honors, as announced by CoSIDA. The organization annually recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.

Schmit, who carries a cumulative 3.98 grade-point-average as an honors student in UIC's Kinesiology program, has been named the athletic department's Female Student-Athlete of the Year in each of the past two years.

A preseason All-Horizon League First-Team selection, Schmit tied for third in the Horizon League in home runs (9), while sitting fifth overall in the League in RBI's, with 39 runs driven in. Schmit concluded the season with a .302 batting average and a .506 slugging percentage.

Schmit led UIC with 10 home runs as a sophomore, helping lead the Flames to the 2011 Horizon League Tournament Championship. As a freshman (2010), she collected All-Horizon League Newcomer Team honors.
