Sarah Clynes Named To Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-Region First Team
May 14, 2009
CHICAGO - UIC softball senior Sarah Clynes (Florissant, Mo./St. Joseph's Academy) was named to the 2009 Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-Great Lakes Region First Team, the NFCA announced this morning. Clynes, the 2009 Horizon League Player of the Year, led the conference in a number of offensive categories as a senior, including batting average (.437), runs scored (23), doubles (10) and walks (12). The outfielder/pitcher closed out her season with a .333 overall average after guiding the Flames to the program's first regular season league title since 2006 before advancing to the Horizon League Tournament championship game on May 10. "Sarah has had a tremendous career at UIC," said head coach Michelle Venturella. "She is very deserving of being selected to the All-Region First Team, and her legacy will live on for years to come as she has influenced all who have had the chance to be around her." The regional honor, the 14th first-team honor in UIC history, is the second in Clynes' career, after being named to the Great Lakes First-Team in 2007.
