Clynes And Frydendall Earn 2007 Horizon League All-Tournament Team Honors
May 13, 2007 Chicago, Ill. - Sophomore Sarah Clynes and freshman Brooke Frydendall were named to the 2007 Horizon League All-Tournament team. Frydendall posted a .500 batting average in four games, while Clynes pitched 27 innings in less than two days with 18 strikeouts and a 0.52 ERA. Clynes owned a 2-1 record in four appearances at the tournament and recorded her fifth shutout of the season in a 1-0 victory over Youngstown State on Thursday, May 10 in the first round. In the sophomore's first 18 innings pitched, Clynes allowed only one run scored in two games. The sophomore fanned eight batters in seven innings pitched against YSU and allowed only two hits. In a 12-inning victory over crosstown rival Loyola, Clynes totaled seven strikeouts. At the plate, the 2007 Co-Player of the Year drew five walks in six at bats to own a .833 on-base percentage against the Ramblers. Clynes posted her best offensive showing versus the Penguins after notching two hits in four at bats, including one of UIC's two doubles in the win. Frydendall led the Flames with eight hits and three runs scored. After earning Horizon League Second Team honors and All-Newcomer team accolades, the freshman posted a team-best .500 batting average in the tournament. Frydendall went 2-for-6 with UIC's winning RBI in a 12-inning triumph over Loyola on Friday, May 11. The shortstop drilled an RBI single into right center to send junior Brittany Dixon home in what would prove to be the winning run in the top of the 12th inning against the Ramblers. Despite falling 4-3 to Wright State in the semifinals, Frydendall was 3-for-4 at the plate with one run and one RBI. Frydendall was also 3-for-4 versus Cleveland State on Saturday, May 12 with a team-best two runs scored. UIC went 2-2 in the 2007 Horizon League Tournament.
