No. 4 UIC Faces No. 5 Youngstown State In First Round Of League Tournament

UIC at Horizon League Tournament Game Notes in PDF Format Chicago, Ill. - No. 4 seeded UIC (18-31, 8-7) faces No. 5 Youngstown State (16-20, 7-7) in the first round of the 2007 Horizon League Tournament hosted by Cleveland State University. The first pitch is slated for 12:00 p.m. CST on May 10 at Viking Field. UIC and Youngstown State last met in postseson action in the 2006 tournament championship game where the Penguins claimed the title on a walk-off home run in the bottom of the seventh inning. The Flames lead the series, 18-8. The two teams met this season in a three-game series at Flames Field on March 31 and April 1. After falling to YSU (6-0) in game one, UIC bounced back to capture the series victory with the next two wins. UIC defeated Wright State in a three-game series, 2-1, in Dayton, Ohio last weekend. Sophomore Sarah Clynes paces UIC at the plate with a .403 batting average. Clynes leads the squad and ranks third in the league with 58 hits. Freshman Brooke Frydendall has recorded a stellar rookie season with a .313 batting average, ranking second on the team. Frydendall has totaled eight doubles, three home runs and a team-best 29 RBI. Clynes also guides UIC in the circle with 14 wins this season. Clynes ranks second in the conference with four shutouts and fourth with 3.99 strikeouts per game. Youngstown State is coming off a 2-1 series upset over Loyola on May 5 and 6. The Penguins are powered by McKenzie Bedra with a .426 batting average. Bedra has totaled a team-high 46 hits, 15 doubles, 33 RBI and nine homers. Karlie Burnell leads the team in the circle with a 3.12 ERA. Burnell has fanned 81 batters in 132.1 innings pitched.
