Chicago, Ill.- The UIC softball team (21-30) and DePaul University (27-19) square off for the second time in three weeks on Wednesday, May 3 when the Flames host the Blue Demons at 6 p.m. Despite handing DePaul a 10-4 loss on April 20, the Blue Demons lead the series 41-29.

UIC enters the contest after splitting with crosstown rival Loyola on April 29. Due to inclement weather, the series finale that was scheduled for Sunday at 1 p.m. was cancelled. The Flames dropped a 6-3 decision in eight innings, followed by a come-from-behind victory (4-1) in game two.

Pitcher Sarah Clynes picked up the win for UIC, improving to 12-5 on the season. The freshman fanned six players in seven innings to help UIC in the comeback. Sophomore Lauren Brennan and freshman Melissa Marinacci both went 2-for-3 with Brennan earning one run scored and one RBI.

Senior Joyce Cathey continues to dominate at the plate for UIC with a .342 batting average on the year. Cathey has produced 29 runs scored, 51 hits, four doubles, four triples, six home runs and 22 RBI for the Flames this season.

DePaul is coming off of four consecutive losses to Big East opponents. Before the losses, the Blue Demons had won seven straight after falling to the Flames, 10-4, on April 20 at Cacciatore Stadium in Lincoln Park. On the season, DePaul is led by Marcy Wilus on offense (.324) with 27 runs scored, three triples and 27 RBI.

Following this non-league showdown, the Flames wrap up regular-season play in their final three-game series versus Horizon League's Wright State on May 6-7 at Flames Field. After this weekend, UIC will battle in the 2006 Horizon League Championship on May 11-13, hosted by Youngstown State in Ohio.
