INDIANAPOLIS - Junior centerfielder Melissa Preishhas been named the Horizon League Player of the Week, it was announced by the league office Monday morning. Preish earns the honor after solid play against Green Bay and Youngstown State, where she compiled a .538 batting average, including two home runs.

“Melissa has been doing great things for us this season,” head softball coach Michelle Venturella said. “I am pleased she has been recognized for her performance.”

The Flames played five games in the week, including a sweep over Green Bay, and splitting decisions with Youngstown State. Until the Penguins snapped the Flames' winning streak, UIC won six games in a row, beginning with a 5-3 win over first-place Horizon League team, Valparaiso, on April 21.

Preish, who played in four of the five games on the week, compiled a .538 batting average. With 13 at-bats, she compiled seven hits, one double and two home runs. Preish's first home run was the game-tying run that kept UIC alive during the first game of the three-game series against Green Bay, which UIC ended up claiming 5-4 in 10 innings.

The centerfielder posted a perfect four-for-four at-bats during the 11-8 victory over Youngstown State, including three base hits, her fifth home run of the season and an RBI.

The junior claimed 14 total bases, and posted a 1.077 slugging percentage, while driving in two runners. Overall on the season, Preish leads the team with her .397 batting average, while batting .404 in league play.

Preish and the rest of the Flames play host to their final series of the season, welcoming Wright State Saturday for a doubleheader at 1:00 p.m. (CT), followed by a single game Sunday.
