CHICAGO – The UIC softball team takes a break from conference play to face Northern Illinois Wednesday at 5:00 p.m. (CT) in DeKalb, Ill.
SCOUTING THE FLAMES
UIC holds an overall record of 15-20 (9-3 Horizon League) … the Flames most recently took two of three games against Valparaiso … UIC won the first two games (7-4, 10-0), and lost the third (3-1) … UIC swept Detroit in a three-game series (5-1, 17-8, 19-3) April 6-7… Kara Komp leads the team with a .400 batting average, with 46 hits in 115 at-bats … senior Coryn Schmit leads the team with five homeruns and junior Natalie Hernandez leads the Flames with a .551 slugging percentage … senior Devin Miller is 15-13 with a 2.85 ERA and has pitched 189.2 innings and has 145 strikeouts for the season.
SCOUTING THE HUSKIES
Northern Illinois has a 13-25 overall record… the Huskies are led by Nicole Gremillion with a .339 batting average … Ashley Kopp leads the team with five home runs while Jennifer Barnett leads in RBIs with 25 … Jessica Sturm has a 2.85 ERA on the mound with a 8-10 record from 123.0 innings … Emily Norton has a 4.06 ERA with a 5-15 record from 117.1 innings.
UIC VERSUS NORTHERN ILLINOIS IN 2012
The Flames faced the Huskies in 2012 … UIC won (6-1) at home on April 18 … Hernandez, Schmit, Komp and Melissa Preish each had a homerun in the game.
NOTABLE HORIZON LEAGUE STATS
The Flames are currently in second place in conference with a 9-3 conference record … Loyola is in first (7-2) and Valparaiso is in third (6-6)… UIC also leads the Horizon League in batting average with .317 … the Flames sit in seventh place with a 5.10 ERA … Loyola is in first with a 2.74 ERA while Detroit is eighth with a 7.21 ERA … the Flames are in first for hits (283), second for runs (160) and RBIs (142), third in home runs (19), and fourth in strikeouts (151) and fielding percentage (.947).
