Three-Game Road Challenge Against Youngstown State Softball April 4, 2008
UIC Softball Game Notes in PDF Format Chicago, Ill. - The UIC softball team heads to Ohio for a three-game series against Youngstown State this weekend. The Flames (13-21, 4-1 HL) face the Penguins in a doubleheader on Saturday, April 5 starting at 12 p.m., followed by the series finale on Sunday, April 6 at noon. UIC is coming off an impressive doubleheader sweep over Green Bay at Flames Field on Wednesday, April 2. The Flames downed the Phoenix, 13-1, in five innings before recording a 6-0 shutout in game two. Brooke Frydendall was 4-for-6 at the plate (.667) against Green Bay with two runs, three RBI and a home run. Sarah Clynes (8-11) tossed a two-hitter in game one with six strikeouts in 5.0 innings pitched. Whitney Orellana picked up her first collegiate win and shutout in a 6-0 triumph in game two. Orellana fanned five batters in 7.0 innings of work. The Flames totaled 10 doubles on the afternoon and tied the school record of seven in game one. Youngstown State (5-15, 2-3 HL) snapped its three-game Horizon League losing streak at Detroit on April 3 with a doubleheader sweep. Bethany Hafley leads the team in conference games with a .286 batting average (4-for-14). Four players have notched home runs on the season. Cheryl Cale paces the team in the circle with a 2.94 ERA and seven strikeouts in three appearances. UIC returns to Flames Field to host Notre Dame in a rescheduled contest on Tuesday, April 2 at 5:30 p.m.
