INDIANAPOLIS - UIC softball second baseman Jacki Fletcher has been named the Horizon League Female Scholar-Athlete of the Month for February, as announced by the League office on Monday.
"Jacki is the epitome of what a student-athlete represents," head coach Michelle Venturella said. "She works extremely hard both on and off the field and is a leader for our team in so many ways. We are all very proud of the person she is and could not be happier for her in receiving this honor."
The senior has maintained a 4.0 GPA while enrolled in the Honors College as a Kinesiology major with a focus in Movement Science. A two-time UIC Female Student-Athlete of the Year award recipient, Fletcher has place on the Horizon League Honor Roll every eligible semester in addition to being named Academic All-League.
During the month of February, Fletcher started all of UIC's 13 games and produced a .514 batting average after going 19-for-37 at the plate. Fletcher tallied seven multi-hit games and collected at least one hit in 11 of her appearances, while also owning the best slugging (.568) and on-base (.550) percentage for the Flames.
To be eligible for Scholar-Athlete of the Month consideration, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade-point-average of 3.20 or higher and have completed at least one year at the member institution, having earned 24 semester-hour or 36 quarter-hour credits. Athletic accolades are also considered in the selection process.
