March 25, 2013
INDIANAPOLIS – Junior Natalie Hernandez was selected as the Horizon League Player of the Week, while senior Devin Miller earned the honor of being named as the Co-Pitcher of the Week; it was announced from the Horizon League headquarters in Indianapolis, Ind., on Monday afternoon.
Hernandez compiled a 2-for-4 outing against Bradley on March 19. Despite falling to the Braves 1-0 in eight innings, the shortstop recorded her second triple of the season and the only one of the game. She was also the only player to record more than a base hit.
In eight innings of work, Miller allowed just one earned run, while blanking four batters. She posted a .179 batting average against figure and a mere 0.62 earned run average. Miller shares the weekly honor with Wright State’s Krystian DeWitt.
Hernandez and Miller are the third and fourth Flames to be selected for a weekly award. Junior Courtney Heeley was the first pick on March 18 as she claimed Player of the Week recognition.
The Flames are set to return to action Wednesday in West Lafayette, Ind., against Purdue at 3:00 p.m. (CT).
