INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Sophomore Laura Swan has been named the Horizon League Player of the Week for March 10-16, as announced by the conference office on Tuesday. Swan earns her second career accolade after posting a .615 batting average at the Hoosier Classic, March 14-15, and registering eight hits, including three doubles.
Swan assisted in the Flames’ 3-1 record at the Hoosier Classic, collecting wins against Toledo, 4-3, Michigan State, 4-3, and Indiana, 10-9.
“It was great to see Laura get her offense going this past weekend,” head coach Michelle Venturella said. “She has been working really hard on making a few adjustments, so it was nice to see her get the results on the field.”
The Glendora, Calif., had multiple hits in three of the Flames’ four games, going 3-for-4 at the plate against Toledo and in their second game with Indiana, and 2-for-2 versus Michigan State. In those games, Swan hit a double against each opponent and concluded play with a .846 slugging percentage.
Among all Flames, Swan tied for the most hits on the weekend with eight, led with her .615 batting average and .571 on-base percentage, and compiled 11 total bases. Swan also had two RBI and scored one run of her own.
In addition to her performance at the plate, Swan recorded a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage with two assists and 32 putouts, including a career-high 10 against Toledo.
Swan will join the Flames as they prepare for their first conference matchup of the season and head to Cleveland, Ohio, to take on Cleveland State in a three-game series beginning Saturday with a doubleheader at 11 a.m. CT.
