SAN DIEGO - The UIC softball team treks west for the final tournament on the 2010 schedule, preparing for a weekend filled with familiar foes already seen this year.

The Flames (6-13) open the San Diego Classic II Tournament against Massachusetts at 4 p.m. CST, the first of three teams UIC has already played in previous tournaments that are on the docket during the trip to the west coast. UIC will also face Kansas during the weekend, and will take on Long Beach State in a double header on Tuesday, beginning at 2 p.m.

UIC will take on the Minutewomen and host San Diego on Friday, followed by Texas A&M and Kansas Saturday, with a tournament finale against Oregon State on Sunday morning.

Last weekend, the Flames broke a nine-game losing streak at the Wildcat Invitational in Tucson, Ariz., going 2-3 with wins over Northern Colorado and Creighton and narrow loses to Minnesota and St. John's.

Senior Brooke Frydendall had a stellar showing in the desert, going 7-for-15 with three doubles and a homer for a team-high four RBI in all five contests. Shannon Kehr currently leads the team in overall batting average with .346 and five homers.
