Swan Named Illinois National Guard Student-Athlete of the Week|

CHICAGO--UIC softball player Laura Swan has been selected as the Illinois National Guard UIC Flames Student-Athlete of the Week for the period of Mar. 10-16. She led her team to a 3-1 weekend record with wins over Toledo and Big Ten members Michigan State and Indiana.
In the first matchup on Friday against Toledo, Swan had three hits on four at-bats. She also recorded 10 putouts to help her team to a 4-3 win. In the second game against Indiana, she recorded six putouts and one assist.
In the first game on Saturday against Michigan State, the sophomore had base hits on both of her two attempts with one RBI. She also had eight putouts and one assist to contribute to the 4-3 win. The final game, a 10-9 win against Indiana, the Glendora, Calif., native ended the night with three hits on four at-bats, one RBI, one run and eight putouts.
Swan concluded the weekend with a .615 batting average with a total of eight hits out of 13 at-bats. She recorded three doubles, two RBI and 11 total bases with a .846 slugging percentage. She also had 32 putouts and two assists.
This is Swan's first time being named Illinois National Guard Student-Athlete of the Week so far this season.
The Flames will open up Horizon League play with their first series at Cleveland State in Cleveland, Ohio, scheduled to begin on Saturday, March 22, with a doubleheader beginning at 11 a.m. CT, and conclude on Sunday, March 23, with the final game set for 11 a.m.
