    CHICAGO – The UIC softball team (0-10) looks to pick up its first victory at the USF Under Armour Invitational. The Flames open competition Friday at 2:45 p.m. (CT) against Kent State, before playing Quinnipiac at 5:00 p.m.

    USF UNDER ARMOUR INVITATIONAL TOURNAMENT CENTRAL PAGE

    UIC opens the weekend against Kent State at 2:45 p.m., followed by Quinnipiac at 5:00 p.m. … Saturday features Central Connecticut State (11:15 a.m.) and USF at 4:00 p.m. … the final day the Flames contest Eastern Kentucky at 8:00 a.m.

    SCOUTING THE FLAMES

    UIC (0-10) enters the USF Under Armour Invitational following trips to New Mexico State for the Hotel Encanto Invitational and the Littlewood Classic at Arizona State … Natalie Hernandez leads the Flames offensively with a .452 average … in 31 at-bats, she has 14 hits and six RBI … Coryn Schmit has two homeruns … Melissa Preish and Laura Swan have also went the distance for a homerun each.

    SCOUTING THE FLASH

    Kent State (2-6) is led by Kim Kirkpatrick with a .350 batting average, including five runs on seven hits … Dani Ramos (.296) has three runs, eight hits and double … Lauren Kesteron hits at .286 and has four runs and hits, including a double and three RBI … the Flash won the first two games of the season, and have lost their past six by no more than three runs.


     

     

    SCOUTING THE BOBCAT

    Quinnipiac (1-3) … Nikki Barba leads the team with a .455 batting average with three runs, five hits a double, homerun and two RBI … Jordan Paolucci hits at .300 with two runs, three hits a double, homerun and RBI … Kortney Kesses has a .250 average with a homerun and RBI … after having their initial four games of the season cancelled, they have lost three of their last four games.

    Central Connecticut State begins competition at the USF Under Armour Invitational.

    SCOUTING THE BULLS

    USF (6-8) is led by Kourtney Salvarola with a .371 average, she has eight runs on 13 hits, including four doubles a homerun and five RBI … D’anna Devine (.324) has four runs on 12 hits, including a double and two triples … Lindsey Richardson has a 3-3 record inside the circle … in 36.1 innings pitched, she has given up 18 hits and 11 runs … the Bulls won their first three games and have lost their past five outings.

    SCOUTING THE COLONEL

    Eastern Kentucky (7-2) … Melissa Costa leads the Colonels with a .444 batting average with six runs, eight hits, a triple and two RBI … Lauren Mitchell is batting at .370 with five runs, 10 hits three doubles and five RBI … Leanna Pittsenbarger is 4-1 inside the circle … she has pitched 30.2 innings with 17 hits and eight runs … Eastern Kentucky has won four of its last five games … they are currently on a three-game winning streak.

    HORIZON LEAGUE PRESEASON POLL

    Loyola received 48 points and six first-place votes to secure the top spot in the poll. … UIC edged Valparaiso by two points to place the Crusaders third with 37 points and one first-place vote … Youngstown State and Green Bay claimed fourth (30 points) and fifth place (22), respectively … Cleveland State placed sixth with 20 points, while Wright State and Detroit rounded out the poll with 19 and 9 points, in that order.
