INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Sophomore Bridget Boyle has been name the Horizon League Pitcher of the Week for Feb. 10-16, as announced by the conference office on Monday. This marks the first such honor of Boyle’s career following a strong performance in the circle at the UCF/Holiday Inn Classic.
“Bridget did a great job this past weekend,” head coach Michelle Venturella said. “She continues to get stronger and learn every time she takes the field, which is great to see. Her resiliency on the mound is a big part of her success.”
The St. John, Ind., native went 14.1 innings while appearing in four of five games and starting against Florida A&M and Middle Tennessee at the UCF/Holiday Inn Classic, Feb. 14-16. While the Flames were unable to come away with a win, Boyle struck out six batters, walked four and earned just three runs through her two starts to contribute to an impressive 1.47 ERA on the weekend.
In relief for UIC, Boyle did not allow a single run and registered just two hits against UCF while blanking James Madison.
Boyle and the Flames return to Florida to compete in the Jacksonville University Tournament beginning on Friday against Savannah State at 10:45 a.m. CT and host Jacksonville at 3:15 p.m. at the JU Softball Complex.
