LAS VEGAS - The UIC softball team returns to action at the Louisville Slugger Desert Classic in Las Vegas on February 19-21, hosted by UNLV.

This weekend's 16-team tournament features four top 25 teams and a pair of squads receiving votes in the national rankings. The Flames face 12th-ranked California to open the tournament on Friday before facing against Indiana, a BYU team that rests right outside the top 25 rankings, Long Beach State and Oregon before heading back to Chicago on Sunday.

UIC opened the 2010 season last weekend, going 3-2 at the Combat Classic where the Flames defeated North Florida, Southern Illinois and NC State. One-run losses to UMass and host Florida International rounded out the competition in the six-team field in Miami, Fla.

Sophomore Melinda Macias went 4-for-13 in five contests, with 5 RBI and a double and a season-opening triple last time out, while freshman pitcher Devin Miller went 2-1 over the weekend in her Flames debut with wins over SIU and NC State.

The Flames kick off the Desert Classic on Friday at 11 CST a.m. against Cal. Weather permitting, fans will be able to follow all five contests via gametracker, available through the schedule and results page.
